Rescue Log

In addition to the 700 permanent residents cared for daily at Bat World Sanctuary, the following bats were rescued and released back to the wild (or were provided permanent sanctuary with us if they were not releasable). Also logged are the rescues we directly assisted with nationally and internationally. Click on the entry to see any photos or videos that are available. 

Texas- Mexican free-tail grounded – photo available

An adult Mexican Free-tail was found flying inside of a Walmart store in Granbury, Texas. The bat was later found grounded after possibly running into a shelving unit. The finder quickly scooped the bat into a box and contacted us, but unfortunately the bat passed later that evening due to a suspected head injury.  

Texas – bat hanging low from side of building

A bat was found hanging low on the side of a building in Mineral Wells, TX. The finder said that the bat was in terrible shape but still alone. We went to rescue the bat immediately but unfortunately he passed away before we arrived.  

Texas – pregnant bat trapped inside Walmart

A mother free-tailed bat became trapped inside the Walmart store in Mineral Wells, TX. Apparently she had been inside for a few days before she was spotted. We rescued the bat but it was unfortunately too late as she passed away shortly after arriving back to our facility.

Georgia- red bat pup found in yard

A baby red bat was found on a sidewalk in Perry, GA. A rescuer was called but unfortunately the pup passed away before help could arrive. 

Kentucky – big brown pup in critical shape

An extremely thin juvenile big brown bat was found late at night near the Kentucky-Tennessee border. Unfortunately, he did not survive to be rescued.

Texas- baby bat found grounded- video available

Texas – orphaned bat found on building

An emaciated free-tailed bat was found clinging to a building in downtown Mineral Wells, TX. We rescued the bat but unfortunately he passed away minutes later and before we had a chance to administer treatment. 

New York – bat found inside house then hit with broom

Oregon- bat found on screen door

A big brown bat was found hanging on a screen door in Eugene, Oregon. The finder had trouble locating local help, and called us for more advice. After receiving photos, it was determined that the bat was very near to passing away, and unfortunately a transporter was unable to be found in time to assist. 

Texas- eastern red bat found stuck in mud- photo available

An Eastern red bat was found at Lake Lewisville in Lewisville, TX. The finder was given safe containment and temporary care information before being transferred to Bat World Sanctuary by her finder.
