Rescue Log

In addition to the 700 permanent residents cared for daily at Bat World Sanctuary, the following bats were rescued and released back to the wild (or were provided permanent sanctuary with us if they were not releasable). Also logged are the rescues we directly assisted with nationally and internationally. Click on the entry to see any photos or videos that are available. 

Texas – free-tailed bat found grounded – photo available

A free-tailed bat was found grounded in Mineral Wells, Tx. Unfortunately he had liver flukes, which is an extremely painful condition that is always fatal. He was humanely euthanized by allowing him to fall asleep during anesthesia.

Arizona – bat fell from tree

A was seen falling from a tree and onto the ground in Phoenix, AZ. We provided guidance on how to safely contain the bat and located a bat trained rescuer in the finder’s area. Sadly, the bat did not survive.

Texas – bat found with wing tear

A bat was found grounded in Troop, TX  with a wing tear and was then driven to us two days later. Apparently he had been down for sometime as his weight when he arrived was half of what it should have been. Sadly. he did not live long enough to get the care he needed. […]

Texas – bat in pool – did not survive

A baby bat was seen trying to get out of a pool for 45 minutes. The homeowner finally used a net to help him out, but it was too late. We also gave information on Frog Logs, which can prevent small animals from drowning in pools, and the homeowner ordered one right away.

Texas – bat found grounded in parking lot

A bat was found grounded in a parking lot in Mineral Wells, TX. The caller refused to contain the bat, and upon arrival the bat could not be located. Considering the amount of birds in the parking lot, the bat was presumed to be taken by the predators.

Texas – bat found at construction site

A free-tailed bat was found at a construction site in Cisco, TX. We drove the 70 mile trip to rescue the bat but unfortunately he was deceased by the time we arrived.   

Texas – free-tailed bat on sidewalk

A free-tail bat pup was found on a sidewalk in downtown Mineral Wells, TX. We rescued the baby, who was in critical condition. She was fully hydrated and was able to nurse milk formula, but sadly passed away later in the day.

Alaska – baby bat found grounded

A baby bat was found in a remote area of Alaska. He was rescued by the finder (a nurse) who then contacted us. We worked via phone with her for several hours but sadly he did not survive the night.   

Arizona – bat found on window screen
