Rescue Log

In addition to the 700 permanent residents cared for daily at Bat World Sanctuary, the following bats were rescued and released back to the wild (or were provided permanent sanctuary with us if they were not releasable). Texas – bat found grounded

An adult  bat was found grounded in Harlingen, TX and fed cows milk (fatal to bats) for three days before we were called. Sadly, the bat died shortly after we arranged transport. 

Texas – bat found at workplace

A Mexican free-tail was found hanging outside of a business in Houston, Texas. Unfortunately, the finders did not reach out to rescuers until nearly a week later, at which time the bat was found to be deceased.

Texas- bat found trapped in closet

A malnourished evening bat was found grounded inside of a closet outside of Lake Jackson, Texas. We provided guidance on how to safely contain the bat and located a bat-trained rescuer in the finder’s area. A transporter was in motion and on their way to pick the bat up, but the bat passed before they arrived. 

South Carolina- evening bat found grounded in backyard

An individual in Myrtle Beach, SC found an evening bat found grounded in their backyard. We provided guidance on how to contain the bat safely and located a bat-trained rescuer in the finder’s area. The bat was transferred to a rescuer where he/she will be assessed for hopeful release back to the wild.
