A home owner in Durham, NC discovered a maternity colony in their attic. Because the colony has babies, they cannot be excluded until September or flightless babies will be trapped in the roost and die. We worked with the homeowner on how to locate any potential cracks or holes near her ceiling which the bats could be using to enter the living quarters, then sealing those areas off with paper towels, caulking or anything handy. Then, in September, when the babies are all flying she can perform a humane eviction on the outside of the home using the instructions on our website. We also provided the names of rescuers in her area in case she finds any downed bats in the meantime.
