Bet you didn`t know bats played with toys. 😃 The bats at Bat World Sanctuary have five toy baskets filled with different objects they can snag, fly off with, chew on, drop and the fly back to get another one.

They especially love squishy vinyl toys, and even more so when the toys are pink. When we noticed that new pink toys were found on the floor more than all the others, we experimented and buried the pink toys under the others in the toy box. The bats then purposefully dug them out to play with them again. I think we can all agree this is adorable. 🥰🦇

No bare hands? But why? ❓❓❓❓

We understand! If you find an injured animal your first instinct is to help, and sometimes we are so focused on providing that help that we may not consider things like not handling a wild animal barehanded.

But, if you truly want to help that animal, please never do so barehanded! To do so could jeopardize your safety as well as the life of a bat. Even though, according to the Center of Disease Control, you cannot contract rabies from a bat by touching its fur, or even its blood or urine. MANY STATES WILL EUTHANIZE A BAT SIMPLY FOR BEING TOUCHED WITH BARE HANDS.❗️❗️❗️

If you find a bat please remember to use puncture-proof gloves or a thick towel (or both) when rescuing him/her as the bat will be frightened and may bite in self-defense.

Now, on occasion, you may see us posting videos or photos of us handling bats barehanded.... 🤔🤔🤔

Please remember that we are trained and vaccinated to handle bats and sometimes use bare hands as it allows better tactile sensitivity and control. We also do our best to get the most authentic and candid content for our followers, so that you can see the work we do and enjoy all the wonderful moments we are lucky to catch on film. We may not always have gloves on when handling the bats. Our goal is to keep the bats safe, and keep the public informed so that you will know how you can safely help a bat in need should your day as a bat hero
