A fruit bat was struck by a motorist in Koh Phangan, Thailand, but thankfully a tourist witnessed the accident and quickly took action. The tourist gave us a call all the way from Thailand. We provided guidance on how to safely contain the bat and located a bat-trained rescuer in the finder’s area. The bat was transferred to a trained veterinarian where he/she will be assessed for hopeful release back to the wild.
