A man in Azel, TX, found an Eastern red juvenile bat clinging to his screen door. The bat looked healthy and was most likely learning how to fly, we asked the finder to leave him in that spot, monitor the area and check to see if the bat had left the area after nightfall. We explained that roosting in different spots is typical behavior for juvenile bats just learning to fly so the bat is likely okay. If the bat does not fly away in the next few days the homeowner will call us back. The bat took off later that night.
