Texas – Eastern red family fell from tree

June 20

While preparing to mow the lawn early in the morning, a resident in Dewyville, TX witnessed something fall from the tree in his yard. There were several birds nearby, so the man assumed it was a baby bird fallen from the nest. When he went to have a look, he was shocked to see an Eastern red bat mother with her litter clinging to her. The bats had likely been chased from a tree by a blue jay. We provided guidance as seen on this link on how to get the small family back into a tree. We also asked the caller to please let us know if any babies were abandoned so we could rescue them and hand-raise them if needed.
