Along with over 100 free-tailed bats, three more cold stunned bats arrived at Bat World MidCities for care after being found grounded under bridges in the Houston, TX area. An arctic blast caused over 1,600 bats to become downed in the Houston area alone. The bats were rescued by Mary Warwick, Director of the Houston HSUS. Mary then contacted us for advice and under our guidance, the healthy bats were placed back into semi-hibernation in the safety of Mary’s attic. On Christmas eve, our wonderful transport volunteer, Elizabeth, made a 600 mile round-trip to Houston to bring 56 critical and injured bats to us, with 62 more transported just last night. These bats will remain in our care until they are healthy enough to be released. If they can’t be released due to being permanently injured, we will provide for their lifetime care.
