A Mexican free-tailed bat was attacked by a bird in Arlington, TX. He was rescued by Bat World MidCities. The attack left him with a badly injured leg. Fortunately, the leg is not broken, but it is degloved (skin torn away from the bones). He has received injections of warmed electrolytes, pain medication, antibiotics, and an iron/B vitamin supplement to compensate for blood loss. It will take several weeks for the injury to heal, after which we will assess his ability to fly and plan his release.
