Nineteen evening bat pups fell from a patio umbrella when it was opened by a homeowner in Houston, TX. Evening bats are notorious for roosting in the folds of umbrellas and feel very safe there. Unfortunately, the finders were unwilling to reunite the pups with their mothers under the safety of the umbrella. We provided guidance on how to safely contain the bat pups and located several bat trained rescuers in the finder’s area. The pups are now under the care of a licensed rehabilitator where they will be hand-raised with other orphans and released when they are old enough to survive on their own.
