Tennessee – baby bat escapes parking lot cats

June 20

A couple had stopped at a local gas station in Johnson City, TN on their way home and saw a group of cats crowding around a small object. Suddenly, the object started to move, and it was obvious that it was a small animal in distress. The couple quickly ran to the animal’s aid and discovered it was a baby bat. The little bat was very lucky to have not been injured by the cats and was thankfully rescued before he found himself with an even worse fate. We provided guidance on how to safely contain the bat and located a bat-trained rescuer in the finder’s area. The baby was transferred to a rescuer where he/she will be hand-raised and released when old enough to survive.
