A bat was flying around in a house in Laurel, MD. We provided instructions on how to encourage the bat to fly out an open door and the couple thought they saw the bat leave. The following day, however, they called back and said they opened their refrigerator and the bat was sitting inside on the top shelf. Apparently he did not go out after all and must have accidentally been closed inside the fridge when it was opened. We provided guidance on how to safely contain the bat and located a bat-trained rescuer in the finder’s area. The bat was transferred to a rescuer where he/she will be assessed for hopeful release back to the wild.
