A caller from Manhattan, KS was concerned about a bat they discovered clinging to a window screen on their home early in the morning. However, the bat appeared uninjured and well groomed. We explained that this is sometimes typical behavior for juvenile bats just learning to fly so the bat is likely okay. The bat was also an Eastern Red, which is a solitary tree roosting bat and may have been chased out of a tree by a bird. We explained if the bat does not fly away in the next few days the homeowner will need to call us back, however, the caller informed us that the bat had taken flight shortly after giving us a call.
