August Rescue News!

LADY ULTRA

A tiny, terrified visitor was found outside a local ultrasound clinic, wedged behind a flower pot where she was thankfully notice by a kind nurse. When she arrived at the sanctuary, the little bat was weak from hunger and severely dehydrated. After emergency fluids, a good meal, and some time to rest, her caregivers proceeded with an exam. They then discovered why she became grounded and unable to find food or water for so long.

Lady Ultra (a nod to the clinic where she was found) had a large tear in her wing membrane, perhaps caused by a predator, which rendered her unable to fly. Thankfully, this was the only injury she had suffered and it will heal. Although it takes months to fully regenerate, even large tears in a bat’s wing membrane heals remarkably well. Lady Ultra will remain in our care with other free-tail bats, who are also healing, to keep her company. Once she has recovered, she will begin flight training to strengthen her wings in preparation for release.

Rescues like Lady Ultra are possible thanks to the generosity of our caring supporters. Donations provide medical care, food, and safe shelter for bats in need.

NORTH TEXAS GIVING DAY – HELP US FINISH THE LEARNING CENTER

North Texas Giving Day is on September 18th, however, Early Giving started on August 28th! This year, we are asking for the funds to help us complete one of our biggest and most exciting projects yet, a Learning Center, which is now 75% complete! You are welcome to DONATE NOW this link, or wait until Giving Day on 9/18 – either way, we truly appreciate your support! ❤

Once finished, we will be able to provide field trips for school children and educational programs for adults. We will also provide rehabilitation training courses, animal control courses, bat exclusion courses, and host on-site interns from around the world. Just this month, we hosted an intern from Bavaria and we will soon host a bat researcher from Singapore who is seeking the proper care of Egyptian fruit bats. With luck, we will be ready for local school field trips by October of this year! Click here to view our budget and read testimonials from previous interns and students.
