A bat was found severely injured after being attacked by a cat in Ottawa, Canada. We provided guidance on how to safely contain the bat and located a bat-trained rescuer in the finder’s area. The bat who is thankfully not pregnant or lactating so there is not an infant bat in jeopardy. She will receive supportive care until her injuries heal and she can be released back to the wild.
Please know that we like cats as well. Outside of feral, cats should not be allowed to roam outside and create havoc with defenseless wildlife. Please consider a “catio” or screened porch to allow your furry feline friend to enjoy the fresh air without risking their safety or endangering the small wild animals who may be passing by.
