A homeowner in Iowa had baby bats falling from their roost in her barn. She used a glove to gather them up and called us. The hot temperatures likely caused the roost to overheat. We advised hanging screen the length of the roost and creating a pup catcher, as seen on this link, so that babies who fall can crawl back in on their own. We also advised placing the fallen babies on the net so they could crawl back into the bat house. The pup catcher also allows bats who get over heated to come down and cool off. It’s cheap to make and can save dozens of lives over the summer.
