New Jersey – baby bats falling in barn

June 21, 2023

A homeowner in NJ had baby bats falling from a roosting site on his house. He used a glove to gather them up and called us. The hot temperatures likely caused the roost to overheat. We advised hanging screen the length of the roost and creating a pup catcher, as seen on this link, so that babies who fall can crawl back in on their own. We also provided rescue information for the pups in need of help. The pup catcher also allows bats who get over heated to come down and cool off. It’s cheap to make and can save dozens of lives over the summer. The baby bats who had fallen were placed on the net and they crawled back inside the house successfully.
