An injured free-tailed bat was found in the yard of a veterinarian in Hillsboro, TX. He was rescued by Bat World MidCities, where it was discovered that he had been through the wringer…one eye swollen shut, what looks like it will be a record-breaking shiner on the other, a bloody nose, and a swollen jaw. After a dose of pain medication and antibiotics, an injection of warmed electrolytes, and a drop of an iron/B-vitamin supplement, he was resting comfortably. He will be monitored closely over the next two weeks for signs of head trauma that would affect his ability to be released once he has made a full recovery.
