2022 Faces of Rescue

Dear Bat World Sanctuary Supporter,

Please enjoy the video below and know that all of these lives, and so many more, were saved because of you.

As this year comes to a close, we are in the process of caring for almost 100 bats who fell to the ground, cold stunned, after an arctic blast swept through Texas. The blast caused over 1,600 bats to become downed in the Houston area alone. The bats were rescued by Mary Warwick, Director of the Houston HSUS. Mary then contacted us for advice and under our guidance, the healthy bats were placed back into semi-hibernation in the safety of Mary’s attic. On Christmas eve, our wonderful transport volunteers, Elizabeth and Audrey, made a 600 mile round-trip to Houston to bring 56 critically injured bats to us, with 62 more transported just last night. These bats will remain in our care until they are healthy enough to be released. If they can’t be released due to being permanently injured, we will provide their lifetime care. In January, Kate Rugroden, our Director of Special Projects, is headed to Houston to teach a bat rehabilitation class to Mary’s staff at HSUS. We are incredibly thankful to Mary, without her help, these bats would not have had a chance.

Here’s to another year of rescuing these precious beings!  And as always, thank you, dear friends, for your incredible support! We could not save these precious beings without you. ♥
